Sygun Copper Mine

Wales has some gorgeous scenery. We fell in love with all the slate and how it was used everywhere!

Seriously, we have some amazingly cute children. :)

Carter wanted to give mom a break from carrying Cameron. He said he was going to carry him the whole time. At the top of the hill from the car park to the shop he declared, never mind, sorry mom I can't do it all day. It was certainly the thought that counted and I was grateful for such an amazing young man.

Hard hats were required for the adults because of low clearances in some areas. The children saw hard hats and were instantly needing some of their own.

The mine had some pretty cool areas of stalactites and stalagmites to explore. It was interesting to see all the different colourings throughout the mine. We learned the blue/green hues came from the copper. While the brown/black colourings came from iron pyrite(fool's gold).

Those fake men up there in the shadows, gave this gal a bit of a startle when we turned the corner and saw it light up.

"You are about to climb 186 steps, if you will find this too difficult, turn around now" This sign was a reminder that we had five lovely children who are willing to climb just about anything for a fun adventure. Even Mason climbed each and every step!

You could see the lines where the powder was used in excavating the mines.

Did we mention it was a tad on the wet side this day. The rain was full on and gave us an extra thing to be excited about, going to the Cafe for lunch.

"Oh sweet ice cream how I love you!" At least this was him asking us nicely for a treat rather than opening it himself and grabbing whatever he could. 

There was a a small museum in the back of the shop, and there were some interesting little artifacts. I loved this wine bottle that was still sealed when they recovered it from a ship wreck.
