So the adventures begin....

The summer holiday came upon us quickly this year and the kids had anticipated greatly our big adventure in other countries where we didn't speak the language. (this is how they referred to the trip) I think Carter was a bit nervous about the fact that his French isn't really close to being able to communicate with everyone around us, but he was surprised at how helpful he was! We started by taking a ferry from the Dover port to Calais, France. We chose the ferry thinking the kids would get a kick out of it for their first time over. Next time we will be taking the tunnel as it is much quicker, but I'm glad that we ferried for this time around. The kids were very impressed with the ferry itself and had fun running on the decks outside. Mason really enjoyed the dessert he chose from the cafe, enough so that he went right to that same thing on the return trip. The wind was making picture time a bit of a disaster, but I think we did the best we could. This is us coming in on Calais port.
The kids loved hanging off the edge and watching all the seagulls going for food in the wake of the ferry.

We set off once reaching France and drove through a bit of Belgium as we embarked on our first stop in Luxembourg. That first day was a lot of driving and not much site seeing, but it was still a great time. The kids are really excellent travelers. The others really like that Mason needs a movie going or he will undo a seat belt and climb all over. They also enjoy playing games and singing some songs for entertainment value.
We did learn one thing about our sweet calm little Cameron. He is by far the worst of our children when it comes to travelling at this age. He did not appreciate being strapped in for hours on end and he made sure we knew it! We are not above bribery in this household and that worked for the most part. We arrived in Luxembourg and grabbed food at a little shack place on the campsite grounds, which actually had some amazingly good fries. Not to sure about the burgers, but the fries made up for it. :) The kids had time to play at the park that was right next to our pitch site and they enjoyed being out of the car more than anything that night.
You might notice our sweet little Honor in the stroller. She had broken her femur at a park the end of July and we were grateful that they could still join us on our trip. It was certainly adventurous of Toni and Jacob, but we are grateful they were there.
