Luxembourg City Casements--or not?

Brennan's legs were tired and Carter is a great big brother. 

We set off with plans to explore the casements of Luxembourg City after the cemetery and also planned on getting lunch. We set off for lunch first, and then remembered we were in Europe where everything closes during the hot afternoon sun. We could all tell we had lived in England to long when we didn't anticipate that it would actually be hot on our trip. To be honest, I was very unprepared for this afternoon adventure, which is unusual, but there you have it. I didn't have an ounce of food for my children and so the adventure of finding somewhere to eat started. In this process we were also trying to find the entrance to the casements. We could see the outside of the casements, but for the life of us we never found the entrance to get in!

We came across this amazing garden set on a hill and enjoyed the sites of the city and the chance to walk around for quite sometime. This was actually pretty fun now that we are in hindsight, but at the time it was hot and a little frustrating.

Near the river that ran through the city we found some very ripe and delicious blackberries. This was a perfect snack until we found something else, and the kids had a great time eating them. Cameron fell in love with the blackberries and Mike was grateful he loved them enough to eat them instead of putting them on his white shirt that he had worn. Toni and Honor were chillin' in the sun soaking up some vitamin D while we were picking the berries.

Mason soon discovered that what we were doing was getting food and he wanted part of that action. So it was all hands on deck and Mason started picking away at the vines. He soon discovered he had to be a bit careful of the thorns.

Did I secretly want someone to fall in--sort of, did they--no. 

We found many little convienent stores that were conviently closed for the afternoon. So we pressed on, but this picture was taken especially for Dad C.
We FINALLY found a little shop that was open. We purchased some bread, cheese, apples, and ice cream. Mason wanted the ice cream and good thing that the lady who spoke not a lick of English still understood Mason screaming meant I want it now. She was sweet and gestured for Mike to open it for Mason and she was writing down that we had taken it. We used the few words Carter had taught us(mostly numbers) to order what food she was slicing and went on our way. The kids were much happier after their tummies were filled and we were able to press on and walk around some more of the city.

We spent about 3 hours walking and taking in the sites, and then decided we would continue to our next destination for the day. We did find it amusing that all the signs were in French except the STOP sign.

All of us especially loved all the coloured houses along the streets. It made everything appear so cheery and lovely. I think we need to decide now what colour our house should be in the future--can't be boring now that we have seen these. :)
