This year, we went big and bold for Thanksgiving. It all started with a suggestion from good old Jacob--pictured below--that he had always wanted to try a Turducken. Well, a Turducken we did. Then Mike had said he wanted to fry a turkey this year, so we decided, "okay, lets do that as well!" Then we maa list of peolpe to invite, the list kept getting longer, people accepted, people declined, and then there were a few more people that we wanted to invite, but we had to promise one another that we couldn't invite anyone else because we could only fit so many. We ended up with 40 people showing on that day and it was a blast!
As far as the Turducken, which was a big experiment for us, this is why YouTube and Google are so handy. We started with hiring a butcher for the de-boning process. At about 1:30am I decided I wanted to assemble the birds before going to bed because I didn't know how long it would take to actually sew this thing back up. Mike was very tired, but he decided that he would stay up and help so that we could both go to bed sooner. We found through a variety of Google links that the best way to cook this guy was slow and steady, 8-10 hours to be precise. Solidifying our desire to have it ready to cook tonight instead of early morning. We started with the turkey, layer of dressing, chicken, dressing, and then duck with dressing in the middle. On to the sewing--Mike was much more skilled at sewing together our birds, so I was nurse while he was surgeon. Then at the convenient time of 4:30 a.m. we were done sewing and the birds were ready to cook!! :) So since we needed the roaster to start at 5:00 a.m. we finished just on time! Sleep becomes a non issue at this point and you just power through--although we did decide that even an hour was better than nothing, so after we started the roaster we went and crashed for a wee bit.
We borrowed table and chairs from the church--there were a lot of potatoes to be peeled--the boys did that.
We never would have made it on time were it not for Toni and Jacob--so thanks to those guys!!
The beginnings of 90 rolls--yup there were a lot of bread rolls, by the end of the night there were none.
Sometimes you have to get creative to fill up the water jugs. The boys getting ready to fry that turkey--I didn't realize that it took no time at all to fry a turkey, so I liked that part about it immediately.
The Fried turkey was yummy, the Turdicken was delightful and the gravy from the Turducken was AMAZING! I am not too proud to say it-it was good good good!!
Proper Thanksgiving was had in this house this year--indeed it was grand! Happy Thanksgiving!!!

What an undertaking! You undoubtedly created a wonderful memory for everyone who came -- and a highlight in your own lives! I have never known anyone who actually created one of those turducken beasts -- everyone reads the recipe and is satisfied with just thinking about it...you two are amazing!
