My dear sweet Carter had a hard time the other day when he saw this. That is right, The Mona Lisa, it brought him much heartache. The conversation went like this. Carter see's this picture in our van, "Wow, who did that they are really good." Mom replies, "That would be Leonardo Da Vinci." Carter says, "He is really good at people." "Yes, he was a very famous artist who has done a lot of work." Carter starts welling up, "I'm not that good." Mom tries to be comforting, "Well, Da Vinci is an incredible artist, but I do believe he was older than you when he did this and he had practiced for years." Carter is now crying, "I am never going to be that good Mom."
What do you say to that? He went into the house still pouting and I couldn't bring myself to try and do anything to make him feel better. He is drawing a lot and loves learning to draw. However, if you tell him something is good and it's not he will look at you and say, "this is rubbish mom." Today he had scribbled on something and asked if I liked it. I said it was original and creative, he said, "oh so you like just a bunch of scribbles, mom, you can say it is rubbish." Goodness!! I can't win with this situation.

lol what a trickster. he know's it's rubbish but asks you anyway... just to catch you in a lie... just kidding. He is so cute.
oh my, that is really quite a phychic insight situation for such a young kid! he is a deep tender thinker and as a pure tender heart. amazing thoughts. i think you did as best you could. maybe talking about spiritual gifts etc who knows?? give him a big hug from me and tell him i think he's amazing for his age and never give up building his talent.
one more thought...tell him that he is incredibly special to have seen and felt the magisty of this great work!! most kids his age would have not even paid attention to it!
Oh my I am laughing so hard! What a stinkin cute kid! I love that he knew you would still like his scribbles, sly little dog. ha ha so cute. It does make me sad though that he was crying, poor thing.
"RUBBISH"??? Yeah, I'm laughing too! Not at Carter's perfection heartache, but how "English" he has become. Hey, we still want to come see you guys okay!
I...LOVE this child and I've never met him. Your stories about him just paint the cutest picture of him (that was appropriate considering the post). I love that he compares himself to Da Vinci. What a sweetheart. I think I'll move to London so my kids will say things like "rubbish". Darling.
Tell him to stop saying the word "Rubbish" it reminds me of Harry Potter.... and all Brittish children are either internally tourtured or chased by fantastical creatures...and well, you don't want him going down that road now, do you.....but I guess if you had to choose as a mother, you'd prefer to be internally tourtured than chased by monsters and evil witches and worlocks...
